The Meat of Lunch

dilbert lunch

It isnt about what you eat; its about leaving to eat — heavy on the leaving...

You know, as a nerd, life can be pretty fun and extra funny. Yeh, I know, not everyone has to be born on a keyboard; but ignorance is hardware issue. I love lunch time. Its a moment that is not valued enuf. By that I mean I am an advocate of physically leaving the building and typically going places you wouldnt normally go, meeting people you would otherwise never have seen; take a walk, go away. Its great for the mind and it allows the backside or "cache" of your mind to unravel the day's riddles. Dilbert has some great moments of enlightenment; hence, I defer to his greatness.

As geek, one grows to expect a great number of seemingly "no brainer" questions and situations. In reality, we get just that ... no brainers. But I do know this, anyone presented with an issue if willing to walk away and detox from the stress miraculously comes up with some very cool ideas and solutions; at the very least, a different, more comfortable perspective. Lunch was good. The wind blew across my skin. The air was just the right temperature and for an hour, four previous hours had vanished. With another great workout night ahead, the approaching four hours will equally disentegrate to greater efforts.

By the way, I ran accross another great podcast for all you iPODers who are labor-intensive and need some heavy concentration powers without the headache; I STRONGLY reccommend this one. Binaural Beats!
Binaural Beats is a weekly ambient & experimental music radio program airing live at 8PM EST each Friday evening on 89.7 WITR in Rochester, NY. You can listen live online with any MP3 compatible streaming player. Its excellent because most of it is wordless; just sounds, noises and oddities that keep your mind free to take on whatever daunting task might lay before it. Creatives understand "geekspeak" for "mind lubricant." Ahhh...I see you understand. Otherwise: leave the office now.

de-stress

...know when you need a break
and/or when you are about to break.
You may only have a moments notice;
but evacuate the location.
You'll be glad you did
and so would every one else
if they knew...

The POWER of Touch

touch

It is used to communicate and to transfer. Entire conversations of touch can occur in a split second without one uttered word. Everything around us is related by touch in some fashion. I am a hand-washing fanatic. By the time you shake a hand or take your money out, there's no telling what all you have touched. You would probably be terrified to know. Luckily, my last touch was all good. Thanks, Pickle honey! I had a full body massage last night that was great. Good job, Bendy!

The science of touch...Studies have been done with newborn babies; half loved and held, the other neglected other than bare necessities. Babies can thrive without sight, without smell, even without hearing. But they cannot thrive without being touched. You may not be familiar with this next term. I wasn't; only it's symptoms and theories. ...skin hunger... Skin hunger is something that happens to people who have lost loved ones...people with few family or friends...people who are ill or who suffer from poor vision, reduced hearing, or dementia, such as Alzheimer's. People who because of disability and changed circumstances are too discouraged, or are simply unable to reach out for what they need.

So basic a human need is touch that neither children nor adults can live without it. Children who live in abusive homes and who are deprived of touch, have been known to wither and die. The need for touch is real, and persists throughout our lives. Indeed, as we approach old age, touching and being touched takes on added importance; it compensates for the decline in other sensory perceptions, and helps us stay connected with our environment.

Touch tells us we're safe, cared for and have value. People who are sure of a warm embrace are happier, more alert, more willing and able to communicate. ...more...

Touch somebody's life today in a good way. Leave a sensation that will magnify the beautifulness of living and increase.

"Squaaaak Shook" as the Mulch Monster Died

mulch monster

Sqak Shook, Squaaaak Shook as the Mulch Monster died one shovel before the last.

mulched yard

Well, let me tell you; it was another spectacularly sunny warm weekend down in the 'boro. I had a fantastic weekend. Our day started at 7am Saturday morning and ended at sundown. That intense day of outsideness included mowing the lawn, weeding, 7 yrds of mulching, stipping and painting the mailbox, planting MORE flowers, and applying turf builder. WHEW! Glad its Monday! The bad news; that was only half of the yard work.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers; we wouldn't be here without 'em. My wife had a nice Mother's Day. She enjoyed a Keri Underwood CD, cards, visiting with youngest son Nick and Tyler and voicemails wishing her well. We laughed and talked for several hours along with some outstanding french toast, cheddar brots, poundcake, and tapioca pudding. (Hmmm...I better workout tonite) Oh yeah, pass the popcorn.

Traffic was great and this day is moving along. I cannot help but think about our flowers. There's just something exciting about "life" and watching it happen and how it works in synchronicity. With the flowers come butterflies, hummingbirds and various other little critters that we don't normally see or notice. The air wafts by with a sweet perfume. The honeysuckle permiates the air in the backyard. We have two squirril-proof bird feeders on the back deck...only one is really squirril proof — they're pretty sneaky little brainiacs! Great bird watching weekend. I saw bluejays, goldfinches, english sparrows, wood thrushes, cardinals, chickadees, starlins and a tufted titmouse. (in case you had any doubts of my nerdness....)
